Background on The Community Foundation:
The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (CFNCR) was established in 1973 to strengthen the Washington metropolitan region by encouraging and supporting effective charitable giving and by providing leadership on critical issues in our community. The Foundation is a community of givers working to strengthen the Washington region. The Foundation houses over 700 charitable giving funds established by individuals, families and businesses in our region, providing the trusted services and community knowledge to help donors make the difference they want to make. The Foundation also plays a leadership role by addressing critical issues, bringing people and resources together to create measurable, lasting change. In FY2009, The Foundation and its donors awarded some $89 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC region and beyond. The Foundation has two affiliates –The Montgomery County Community Foundation and The Prince George’s Community Foundation. The Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) was established in 1996 to encourage giving in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Overview of the Position:
Overall, the full-time Administrative Assistant supports the work of the Montgomery County Community Foundation staff team in all ways. General responsibilities include:
• Donor Services: Work with Montgomery County staff team, as well as finance and grants management staff downtown, to ensure top notch customer service for individuals, families and businesses that house their grantmaking funds at the Community Foundation. Responsibilities include scheduling, providing customer service on the phone and by email, data entry, grants monitoring, and filing.
• Special Projects: Assist in the coordination of grantmaking activities. Activities include announcing annual Requests for Proposals, processing grant proposals, and coordination of applicant site visits. Also responsible for coordination of Grants Committee and Steering Committee meetings, material preparation, drafting correspondence, fielding phone inquiries and data entry.
• Marketing and Events: Assist in the preparation of event marketing materials, sponsorship correspondence, and event logistics.
• Committee Liaison: Work closely with the Executive Director and staff, on board and committee meetings and activities, including meeting coordination, material preparation, and meeting minutes.
• Office Management: Manage the internal operations of our Silver Spring office. Responsible for ordering supplies, administering equipment maintenance contracts, answering the main telephone line and fielding general inquiries.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelors degree, and/or a minimum of two years of direct administrative support, or equivalent experience; excellent computer skills, including mastery of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; excellent writing and editorial skills; ability to work independently and take initiative; ability to work as part of a small team; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with tremendous attention to detail; flexible; excellent customer service skills. Strongly Desired: Commitment to community nonprofit organizations, as evidenced through education, previous jobs, and/or volunteer experience.
